The Graduate School dean names a Management Group to support the dean in leadership of doctoral research and development as well as fulfilling the University’s strategy. The Management Group discusses e.g. the development of doctoral training processes, admission times and admission criteria and the amount of travel grants. Meetings are held approximately seven times per year. The doc researcher member can get commissions (41,2€ / attended meeting) and credits ( https://www.oulu.fi/uniogs/recommendationsofects ) for the work, if they're not staff of the University of Oulu. The UniOGS dean acts as the chair.
The Management Group members are the chair of the Doctoral Training Committees as well as other members named by the dean. The dean names one doctoral research representative and one deputy by OYY’s proposal. Their term is one calendar year.
The Board of the Student Union of the University of Oulu names the doctoral researcher representatives in December 2021. The representative term lasts for the year 2022. Eligible for the organ are doctoral researchers in the University of Oulu Graduate School. Eligible are those Student Union members who have left their application within the application period and have enrolled in the University of Oulu for the semester when the representative term begins. An applicant must enrol as a doctoral researcher in the University of Oulu and as a member of OYY for the spring term 2022 by 12.12.2021. All doctoral researcher representatives, the UniOGS Management Group representative, OYY’s academic affairs specialist and other participants gather in the Doctoral Researchers’ Section approximately once a month. The goal of the section is to influence the development of doctoral research and promote equal rights and well-being for doctoral researchers. The section is open to all interested parties. The Management Groups’ doctoral research member acts as the chair of OYY’s Doctoral Researchers’ Section and the deputy member as the vice chair. The Doctoral Researchers’ Section is a community and advocacy section for all doctoral researchers. The Section watches over University decision-making and doctoral training practices, proactively advocates doctoral students’ interests and well-being, and promotes doctoral students’ awareness of their rights and their ways of influencing University decision-making. The Section also promotes a sense of community and can organise events for doctoral researchers. The Section’s actitivity is part of OYY’s activities and funded by OYY. The chair summons the Section meetings, prepares issues for discussion, and leads the discussion. The chair is also responsible for the Section’s communications, collaboration with doctoral researchers and organising events together with other societies. The chair acts as the primary contact person for doctoral researchers, the University and other groups. The Chair get commissions (20€/conducted meeting. max. 10 meetings).
In the selection process, the Act on Equality between Women and Men (609/1986) shall be followed.
