Description:

The Education Management Group is the highest educational affairs organ at the university. It gathers the Vice Rector for Education, Director of Academic Affairs, and the Education Deans of all faculties to work on the management, development and strategies of education. The Education Management Group comprehensively discusses the university’s educational objectives and development of education. Members of the organ get to directly influence the outlining and implementation of the university’s education. The group is a direct link to the Education Committees of the Faculties. It holds meetings approximately once a month, on top of which some time must be reserved for perusing the meeting materials on the preceding days.

Two student representatives are appointed to the Education Management Group for a two-year term (2022-2023). OYY’s Specialist in Academic Affairs and the Secretary General support the representatives and are entitled to participate in and speak at the meetings. The representatives will receive study credits (4 ECST) and meeting fees (41,2€ per attended meeting) for their work.

The Board of OYY appoints the student representative in September of 2022, and the representative's term begins immediately after. Eligible for the position are all students who have submitted their application by the deadline of the application process and are registered as attending students of the University of Oulu by 11 Sept, 2022. The selected representative must be registered as attending when working as a representative.

The position requires fluent Finnish skills. Previous experience in student representative work in the administrative body is considered a benefit. Description:

The University Collegium of the University of Oulu is, alongside the board, our university’s most influential body. The jurisdiction and assembly of the University Collegium governed by public law is regulated in the Finnish Universities Act. The collegium is responsible, for example, for making decisions pertaining to the board’s number of members and confirming the selection of new members, as well as confirming financial statements and annual reports. In addition, the collegium releases the board from liability and relieves board members from their duty. For the term of student representatives of 2022-23, the Collegium selects the majority of the members from outside the University in the Board. A comprehensive list of the collegium’s statutory duties can be found at the end of this call. The collegium generally assembles few times per semester, on top of which meetings with the Oulu University Collegium’s student group as well as other co-operation will require members to reserve some time. 8 student representatives and 8 personal deputy members are selected to the Collegium for a two-year term. The deputy members attend the student group’s meetings and cover for members in case they are unable to attend. Moreover, the administrative body comprises 8 professors and 8 other staff members, who have personal deputy members in accordance with the University of Oulu’s Education Regulation § 13. The student union’s academic affairs specialist supports the student representatives. Students will receive study credits (2 ECST per term, max 10 ECST / student) for the operation as well as a meeting fee (41,20€ per attended meeting /2021).

We are now looking for two personal deputies to the University Collegium. The Student Council of OYY elects the student representatives of the University Collegium on Sept-Nov. The term of the elected representatives begins immediately after. The eligible applicants can be interviewed, the applicants are notified of the possible interview. Eligible for the student representative position are all members of the student union who have applied for the position by the deadline of the application period and have registered as attending students of the University of Oulu by the 11 Sept 2022. The selected applicants must be registered as attending students when acting as student representatives.

Previous experience in student representative work in the administrative body is considered a benefit in the appointment. The Council aims to select representatives from all faculties of the University of Oulu if possible. Faculty Management Group helps the Faculty Dean in the management, development and implementation of the strategy of the faculty. The Management Group can also lead the research activity of the faculty in case the faculty does not have a separate research management group. In that case the group prepares the measure programme of research and evaluates the quality of research activity. In addition to student representatives, the Management Group consists of the Dean, the Education Dean, the Head of Academic Affairs, the Heads of Research Units and other staff. The Management Groups hold meetings somewhat variantly and by faculty, mostly once a month. The doctoral student member of the Graduate School Management Group also acts as the Chair of OYY’s Doctoral Students’ Section, and their deputy member acts as the Vice Chair. 1 member and 1 deputy member are appointed to the Management Groups of faculties for a two-year term.

There are four Doctoral Programme Committees (prev. Doctoral Training Committees) in the University of Oulu Graduate School: Human Sciences, Technology and Natural Sciences, Health and Biosciences and Technology and Electrical Engineering. The Doctoral Training Committees direct, develop and evaluate the activities of the doctoral degree programs in the specific fields of the Committee. The Committees e.g. assess admission applications, doctoral training plans and final PhD theses. Additionally the Committees are also responsible for organizing field-specific doctoral training. The doctoral researcher members in the Committees are important advocates for doctoral researchers when planning their education. The Committees meet approximately once a month. Members can get study credits (1 cr. / year, max. 4 years) and they are paid an attendance allowance (41,20€ per participated meeting / 2021).

All doctoral researcher representatives, OYY’s academic affairs specialist and other participants gather in the Doctoral Researchers’ Section approximately once a month. The goal of the section is to influence the development of doctoral research and promote equal rights and well-being for doctoral researchers. The section is open to all interested parties. Do you have an opinion about student lunch? Do you want to develop the quality of Uniresta's restaurants?

At the restaurant working group the operations of Uniresta's campus restaurants (Kastari and Medisiina) are the main focus. The tasks of the working group are to handle the feedback from the customers and to plan and develop the operations together based on the feedback. The members represented at the working group are: Uniresta's staff, students, University's staff and FSHS. The working group meets few times a year.

One member and one deputy are selected for the two-year term. OYY’s Specialist in Social Affairs supports the student representatives in their work and participates in the working group. Participation in the working group is voluntary work and does not pay or award the participants study credits.

The Restaurant Working Group discusses the activity of the Juvenes restaurants at the University of Oulu. The Restaurant Working Group processes customer feedback and plans and develops the activity based on the feedback. In addition to restaurant owners, students, University staff members, and the FSHS are represented in the Working Group. The Restaurant Working Group holds meetings a few times an academic year.

Two members and two deputy members are elected for the Working Group. OYY’s Specialist in Social Affairs is entitled to attend and speak in the meetings and supports the representatives in their task. Participation in the working group is voluntary work and does not award the participants study credits.

The Equality and Diversity Committee is responsible for the equality and diversity work at the University of Oulu. The committee gathers and transmits information about equality and diversity issues and arranges training and events. The committee also prepares the equality and diversity plan of the University of Oulu and superintends that the plan follows through. The committee consists of students as well as staff members. It holds meetings a few times a semester and operates mainly in English.

Three members and three deputy members are selected for the two-year term. Description:

There are three working groups that are appointed to manage issues pertaining to equality and diversity at the University of Oulu. Their tasks are to inform students and staff as well as the Equality and Diversity Committee about matters pertaining to equality and diversity, participating in designing the university’s equality and diversity plan and supervising the implementation of the plan in their faculties.

One member and one deputy member are selected for the Equality and Diversity Working Group of the Faculties of Technology and Science for a two-year term. OYY’s Specialist in Social Affairs supports the student representatives. Participation in the working group is voluntary work and does not award the participants study credits.

The Board of OYY appoints the student representatives in September of 2022, and the representatives’ term begins immediately after the decision. Eligible for the position are all students who have submitted their application by the deadline of the application process and are registered as attending by 11 September, 2022. The selected student representative must be registered as attending when serving as a representative.

Participating in the Equality and Diversity Working Group does not require any previous experience. The selection process is conducted in accordance with the Act on Equality between Women and Men (609/1986).

Additional call: The student wellbeing working group of the University of Oulu

Description:

Student Wellbeing Working Group promotes the well-being and studying abilities of students as well as the consideration of students as members of the university community. The Working Group comprehensively processes matters pertaining to students’ wellbeing, studying abilities, financial situations, living and communality, as well as to the guidance and progress of their studies. The Working Group also acts as a link and a coordinator between the work of different operators that promote the well-being of students. In addition to the Student Union, different operators of the University, the FSHS and the united parishes of the city of Oulu are represented in the multi-professional group. The Working Group holds meetings approx. once a month.

Four members and four deputy members are selected to the working group for a two-year term. OYY’s Specialist in Social Affairs is entitled to attend and speak in the meetings and supports the student representatives in their work. Participation in the working group is voluntary work and does not award the participants study credits.

Additional call: The Sub-Working Group of Education for Sustainable Development of the University of Oulu

Description:

The Sub-Working Group of Education for Sustainable Development is appointed to advance study modules in future sustainable development at the University of Oulu. The working group has, for instance, designed a pilot course on sustainable development. Next, the working group’s objective is to expand the study module into a subsidiary subject during 2022. The sub-working group consists of specialists from several faculties as well as student representatives.

One member and one deputy member are selected to the working group for a two-year term. OYY’s Specialist in Social Affairs supports the student representatives in their work. Participation in the working group is voluntary work and does not award the participants study credits. Sara Jokiniemi (sara.jokiniemi@oulu.fi) acts as the secretary of the Sub-Working Group of Education for Sustainable Development.
