Term:

2016-09-09 - 2016-12-31

Manager :

Aaro Häkkinen, aaro.hakkinen@hyy.fi

The University of Helsinki began an education reform dubbed the Big Wheel in 2015. The reform aims to clarify the three-tier educational structure that is in line with the Bologna process by moulding Bachelor’s degree programmes into broad-based education modules that exceed subject, unit and faculty boundaries. At the same time, the number of programmes you can apply to at the University will decrease. International and national Master’s degree programmes will be planned in such a way that they will form thematic modules that exceed subject, unit and faculty boundaries. Additionally, the employability and skills produced by each degree programme will be scrutinised. Processes related to applying for the right to complete a doctoral degree as well as doctoral degrees’ general criteria and principles will also be systematised in connection with the reform.

A project group was set up to plan and implement the project activities and to coordinate the project. Now we are looking for a new postgraduate student representative to join the group until the end of 2016.

Tasks of the project group

  • Preparatory work on university-level decisions and policies as well as directing subprojects and working groups that conduct preparatory work.
  • Coordinating faculty-specific development projects and university-level subprojects.
  • Organising necessary events and monitoring the progress of the ‘organising support’ project as well as making reports on the project to the Academic Affairs Council.
  • Other potential tasks given by the Academic Affairs Council.

The project group’s term ends on 31 December 2016. If necessary, the term may be extended with a decision of the Academic Affairs Council.

Applications addressed to the Board of the Student Union should be filled at www.halloped.fi by Monday 5 September 2016 at noon.
