The Education Council supports the University Board of Directors and the rector in advancing education, provides initiatives regarding education policy as well as initiatives for developing teaching and evaluates the quality of University education. The Council has a significant part on managing the strategy of education of the University of Oulu. The chairperson of the education council is the vice rector of education. The Council works in English.
Two student members are appointed to the Education Council for a two-year term. OYY’s Specialist in Academic Affairs supports the representatives and is entitled to attend and speak in the meetings. The representatives will receive study credits (4 ECST) and meeting fees (41,2€ per attended meeting).
The Board of OYY appoints the student representatives in December of 2021, and the representatives’ term begins in January of 2022. Eligible for the position are all students who have submitted their application by the deadline of the application process and are registered as attending by 31 November, 2021. The selected representative must be registered as attending when serving as a representative.
Previous experience in student representative work in the administrative body is considered a benefit. The Board aims to select representatives from all faculties of the University of Oulu. The selection process is conducted in accordance with the Act on Equality between Women and Men (609/1986).
